Richard Pettibone striking Miniature Appropriation of Frank Stella's "Tomlinson Court Park", 1959, Black Enamel on Canvas Painting was executed in 1976. Frank Stella's "Tomlinson Court Park", 1959 is currently in the Collection of the Kawamura Memorial Museum of Art.

Roberta Smith of The New York Times singled out Richard Pettibone's "Black Stella" Appropriations in the 2005-2006 Artist's Retrospective organized by the Tang Museum. Ms Smith wrote Pettibone's Black Stellas "are as good as his best efforts of the 1960's, namely his Warhols and his irresistible early Lichtensteins, with their tiny, red Benday dots."

Although Pettibone intended the works as respectful homage’s, the small size appropriations radically challenged the aggressive objecthood of Stella's paintings." Duncan further stated, "by physically reducing Stella's works, he reduced as well their conceptual impact".

The Richard Pettibone "Frank Stella, Tomlinson Court Park, 1959" a faithful replica of the Frank Stella original, retaining its impact, just on a smaller scale. This rare and desirable Miniature Richard Pettibone Appropriation of the Frank Stella "Tomlinson Court Park" Masterpiece is in pristine condition. A Pettibone Appropriation of a Frank Stella Purple painting fetched $55,000., at Christie's New York on 9/21/11, far exceeding its $10-$15,000. estimate.
